Tucker and Dale vs Evil
-Matt O'Brien
Stars:
Alan Tudyk.............................Tucker
Tyler Labine............................Dale
Katrina Bowden...................Allison
Jesse Moss..............................Chad
Phillip Granger......................Sheriff
This film is by far, one of the most underrated movies in recent memory. Truly it’s the perfect indie film, and the fact that its relegated to the bargain bin is a shame. This cross between “Shaun of the dead” and “Wrong Turn” is a refreshing take on the slasher film, and really highlights the comedic talents of its leads, Alan Tudyk (Serenity, Knocked Up) and Tyler Labine (Reaper, Zack and Miri).
Tucker and Dale are two well-meaning hillbillies who just bought the vacation home of their dreams - a run-down, lakefront cabin in the middle of the woods. Their peace is disrupted when a group of rowdy college students choose their area of the forest to go camping. When one of the girls falls into the lake (a result of Tucker and Dale startling her), they bring her back to their cabin to bandage her up. A series of misunderstandings ensue, involving the remaining campers trying to “rescue” their apparently fallen comrade.
The movie is basically a comedy of errors with each error resulting in a gruesome death. While the manner of the deaths is so over the top as to be funny, the biggest laughs come from the dialog. "Tucker and Dale vs Evil" excels at both physical comedy (the chainsaw scene for example) and verbal (explaining the situation to the police). This film deserved a theatrical release, but will still likely gain a cult following, which it thoroughly deserves.
